The Borders party is a political party involved in Local Government in Scotland. The Party was founded in 2006 and is based in the Scottish Borders, and is concerned with improving the quality of life and welfare of those living and working in the area. Candidates from the party are fielded only in Council elections and do not stand in National or European elections. The Borders party is non-affiliated to any of the other national parties, and has members from across the political spectrum. The Borders Party contested the Scottish Borders Council election, 2007 and returned two councillors. The Party also contested every ward in the Scottish Borders Council election, 2012 returning both Sandy Aitchison and Nicholas Watson to their respective wards for a second term. On 4 February, 2012, Leaderdale and Melrose, Borders Party Cllr Nicholas Watson resigned his seat on the Council to pursue employment in Cumbria. The by-election was won by Iain Gillespie, also of the Borders Party, on 2 May 2013
